I spent most of my adult life in fight or flight mode
I spent 25 years as a police officer in London and Essex. Years of working shifts on the frontline, wearing heavy kit and dealing with highly stressful and traumatic incidents took a toll on my body. I was permanently stressed and sleep deprived, eating junk just to get me through the day.
Living in that fight or flight mode caused my nervous system to create an invisible armour to 'protect me' from any perceived threats. The result? A tight and tense body, constant pain and the inability to ever relax and just chill out.
Over the years it got worse and worse, and when I reached a strategic rank, I was frazzled to the core.
I hoped there would be a light at the end of the tunnel, but there never was....
The result was my body and my brain finally reaching the point of no return and I hit burnout. I took far too long to do something about it.
